Air Force athletics nears end of 2018-19 year with graduation

Athletics produces banner year
Air Force athletics is nearing the close of 2018-19 season, as cadet-athletes from the class of 2019 will participate in graduation ceremonies today in Falcon Stadium. The class of 2019 includes 170 athletes from 27 intercollegiate sports, plus cheer and boxing.
The newly-commissioned second lieutenants will be going into career fields such as contracting, remotely piloted aircraft, pilot training, engineering, personnel, acquisitions, diversity recruiting, logistics, aircraft maintenance, financial management, missile operations, intelligence, space operations, cyber operations, systems acquisitions and graduate school.
Air Force athletics has had another banner year, with track and field still competing at the national level. Thus far, Air Force has had one national championship with the air rifle team winning the discipline at the NCAA Championships. The Academy has had five conference champions with men's soccer (WAC), men's and women's rifle (Patriot), women's gymnastics (MPSF), women's tennis (MW Mountain Division) and lacrosse (Southern).
Air Force has produced four conference player of the year awards, including Tucker Bone (WAC Offensive) and Andrea Seazzu (WAC Defensive) in men's soccer, men's track and field standout Michael Rhodes (MW Indoor Student-Athlete of the Year) and Brandon Jones (Southern Defensive) in lacrosse.
The Falcons are having an outstanding year in the Learfield IMG College Director's Cup standings. Air Force leads the Mountain West and is top-ranked service academy in the most recent standings. The Falcons rank 49th in the nation with 317.5 points.
Air Force finished the season with a 12-8-4 overall record vs. Army and Navy in head-to-head competition. Air Force was 7-4-3 vs. Army and 5-4-1 vs. Navy. The Falcons are 53-40-6 overall against Army and Navy the last four years, including marks of 29-21-4 vs. Army and 24-19-2 vs. Navy.

• Air Force has finished in the top three in the Mountain West in the Learfield Director's Cup standings three consecutive years while ranking as the top service academy seven straight seasons entering this season. Air Force finished third in the MW and 68th nationally with 345.50 points. The Falcons finished second in the Mountain West in 2016-17 with 347.0 points which ranked 67th nationally. Air Force led the MW in 2015-16 for the first time in school history with a school-record 427.5 points. The school ranked 55th nationally which is the best in Air Force history.

LEARFIELD IMG COLLEGE DIRECTOR'S CUP STANDINGS
Air Force leads the Mountain West and is top-ranked service academy in the most recent 2018-19 Learfield IMG College Director's Cup standings. The Falcons rank 49th in the nation with 317.5 points. Air Force has earned points in women's cross country (28 points, 32nd nationally), men's cross country (54 points, 20th nationally), men's soccer (64 points, 9th nationally), Rifle (85 points, 3rd nationally), women's idoor track and field (18.5 points, 53rd nationally), men's indoor track and field (17 points, 56th nationally) and fencing (36 points, 19th nationally).

• Air Force has finished in the top three in the Mountain West in the Learfield Director's Cup standings three consecutive years while ranking as the top service academy seven straight seasons entering this season. Air Force finished third in the MW and 68th nationally with 345.50 points. The Falcons finished second in the Mountain West in 2016-17 with 347.0 points which ranked 67th nationally. Air Force led the MW in 2015-16 for the first time in school history with a school-record 427.5 points. The school ranked 55th nationally which is the best in Air Force history.

• Air Force finished the season with a 12-8-4 overall record vs. Army and Navy in head-to-head competition. Air Force was 7-4-3 vs. Army and 5-4-1 vs. Navy.
