Falcons beat the Zips in rifle match

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Air Force rifle team traveled to Akron, Ohio, to compete in a shoulder-to-shoulder match against the University of Akron on Jan. 24. The Falcons beat the Zips 4683 to 4670. The win gave the Falcons a season-high score. The Falcons won both events, finishing with a 2325 in smallbore and 2358 in the air rifle. The 2325 was also a season high.

The Falcons top scorers in the match were sophomore Peter Fiori (Lebanon, NJ), who scored the highest in the smallbore with a 587 and senior Logan Ogden (Galway, NY), who was ranked second with a 586. In the air rifle, Fiori led the pack with a 595 while Ogden missed second place by one point with a 591.

Five of the Air Force shooters ended the day on the Top-10 Individual list with Fiori as the number-one finisher with an 1182, followed by Ogden with an 1177. Sophomore Maliya Hillman (Spokane, WA) came in at sixth place with an 1159 and sophomore Devin Schwindt (Lees Summit, MO) was ranked eighth with an 1152. Junior Nate Peterson (Sharpsburg, GA) finished ranked ninth with an 1151.

Also shooting for Air Force in the match was freshman James Fees (Nokesville, VA), who finished with a total score of 1140, and sophomore Lauren Sprock (Davidsville, PA), who finished the day with an 1136.

The Falcons will be in Columbus on Saturday, Jan. 25, for a match against Ohio State.
