It is the third time in four years both programs have earned a mention in the season-opening poll.
NEW ORLEANS – For the second-straight year, the Air Force men's and women's cross country teams are both listed in the first national rankings of the season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today (Oct. 27), with the release of the first Division I poll of the abbreviated 2020 season. The men earned 63 points and a No. 26 ranking, while the women picked up 93 points for a No. 23 placement.
It is the third time in the last four years that both Air Force squads, which are under the direction of seventh-year head coach Ryan Cole, have been mentioned in the season-opening USTFCCCA rankings.
Air Force is one of six Mountain West programs to be mentioned in the two USTFCCCA polls – and the only one to have both squads listed in the Top 30. The men's field included Colorado State (No. 23, 97 points) and three teams – Boise State (16 points), Utah State (13 points) and Wyoming (11 points) – that were receiving votes, while women joined No. 2 New Mexico (316 points), No. 14 Boise State (175 points) and Utah State (receiving votes, 1 point).
The NCAA Cross Country Championships are tentatively scheduled for March 15, 2021.
