Air Force Fencing Heads To NCAA Championships

Air Force fencing has a program-record 10 cadet-athletes competing at the 2021 NCAA Fencing Championships, which runs Thurs.-Sun, March 25-28 at State College, Pa., on the Penn State campus.. The Falcons have six competing on the men's side and four on the women's side.
The National Collegiate Men's and Women's Fencing Championships include individual events in each of six weapons (men's épée, men's foil, men's sabre, women's épée, women's foil and women's sabre).
Fencers will compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
"As we go into the tournament, we are more detached from the wins and losses, and we are more focused on performing to the best of our abilities," head coach Omar Elgeziry said. "The NCAA Championships is the event that every student-athlete waits for throughout the season, which means that every match matters. It's hard to expect the results, so all we can do is fight every bout and stay focused. I can't wait to see ten of our cadets fencing this event and have four freshmen gain a tremendous experience. As always, it's going to be fun. Go Falcons!"
