LEXINGTON, Ky. – The historic haul of postseason recognition for Air Force freshman volleyball player Joi Harvey continued this morning (April 13), as she received Pacific North All-Region Honorable Mention status from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
One day after being named the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and becoming the first Air Force player since 1984 to earn a major conference award at any Division, Harvey accounted for another program milestone today, as she became the first Falcon at the Division I level to earn recognition from the AVCA. Harvey, a native of Goodyear, Ariz., is the first Academy player in 27 years to receive a mention from the national coaches' association (Louella Lovely, 1993).
In her first collegiate season, Harvey was one of the Mountain West's most proficient attackers– hitting .349 on the year, with 118 kills on 238 attempts and just 35 errors. Hitting over .400 in six of 13 contests during the delayed 2020 season – and over .380 in two additional matches, Harvey paced Air Force to its second-highest team average in seven years (.201). In addition to her performance on the offensive side of the ball, which included being ranked amongst Air Force leaders in kills (118), kills per set (2.31) and points (147.0), Harvey also averaged a team-best 1.02 blocks per set – the 10th-best average in the Mountain West. Backed by a team-leading 52 total blocks, including six solo stops, Harvey was a vital part of an Air Force defense that held its opponents to a league-low .151 average.
Harvey, an all-Mountain West selection, helped the Falcons to a 7-6 record during the recently completed season – the first winning season for Air Force at the Division I level.
