Men’s Tennis Caps Season With Setback to New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis (8-12, 1-6 MW) fell to New Mexico (8-9, 6-1 MW) 4-1 in a Mountain West dual and season-finale Saturday afternoon at the USAFA Outdoor Tennis Courts. New Mexico was crowned the MW Champion with the win.
The Falcons continued its dominance in doubles, earning the point. Air Force took the doubles point in conference play for the sixth time in seven matches.
Sean McKendree and Justin Waldman fell at No. 3 doubles to Alex Maggs and Stepan Holis 6-1. The Falcons then rallied back.
Robert Baylon and Jordan Azuma won at No. 2 over Jake Trondson and Raul Dobai 7-6. The duo capped the season with a 12-2 record in doubles.
Paul Hendrix and Jamie Bautista then earned the point with the win at No. 1 over Dominic West and Sergio Molina 7-6. The four-year doubles teammates capped their careers with a 45-27 record together in doubles play.
The Falcons struggled in singles play, getting swept in four straight. Jonathan Mascagni fell at No. 4 to Rafael Abdulsalam 6-4, 6-0. Waldman fell at No. 3 to Holis 6-4, 6-2. Baylon fell at No. 2 to West 6-1, 6-4. Hendrix fell at No. 1 to Dobai 7-6, 6-2.
It was the final match for the three Air Force seniors. Jamie Bautista, Paul Hendrix and Sean McKendree make up the senior class of 2021.
