Men’s Swim and Dive Tops Denver at the Sprint Eliminator, 210.00-168.00

DENVER – Air Force swam past Denver at the Sprint Eliminator Championships, 210.00-168.00, Saturday afternoon in the El Pomar Natatorium. The Falcons took the top spot in six events, including both relay races.
Air Force got off to a strong start in the 200 medley relay as Gabe Bartolomei, Tory Bartlett, Andrew Limpert and Corey Shepard clocked a first-place finish at 1:30.15. The 200 free relay team made up of Wen Zhang, Andrew Limpert, Jacob Bulseco and Corey Shepard swam to a first-place finish at 1:22.83. Teammates Adam Grimm, Joseph Moore, Jack McGrath and Stephen Zanowic finished third with a 1:24.71.
Air Force junior standout Wen Zhang took finished first in two events, winning the 200 freestyle (1:36.06) and 500 freestyle (4:32.06). Teammate Adam Grimm finished second behind Zhang in the 200 free with a 1:40.52.
The Falcons were exceptional in the 50 butterfly and 50 freestyle, winning the top-three spots in both events. Grant Afman led the way in the 50 butterfly with a (22.10), while teammates John Plutt (22.31) and Andrew Limpert (22.37) finished second and third, respectively.
In the 50 freestyle, it was Shepard who took the top-spot, clocking a 20.55 ahead of teammates Wen Zhang (20.64) and Andrew Limpert (20.72).
Air Force diver Alex Kenyon concluded the event with a pair of second-place finishes in the one-meter dive (308.10) and three-meter dive (341.63).
Other finishers in the top-three include Gabe Bartolomei (23.27) and Joseph Moore (23.67), finishing second and third, respectively, in the 50 backstroke. Tory Bartlett took second in 50 breaststroke (26.04). Moore and Grimm finished second (1:51.89) and third (1:51.95) in the 200 IM, respectively.
Next up, the Falcons play host at the Air Force Diving Invitational, Thursday to Saturday (Feb. 3-5), in Cadet Natatorium. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. each day.
Swimming returns to action at the University of Denver for the Last Chance Invitational, February 11-12, at the El Pomar Natatorium. Action on Friday (Feb. 11) begins at 5 p.m., while swimming starts at 10:30 on Saturday.
