Women’s Swim and Dive Concludes Sprint Eliminators

DENVER – Air Force fell to Denver, 310.00-68.00, in the Denver Sprint Eliminator, Saturday afternoon (Jan. 29) in the El Pomar Natatroium. The Falcons' visit was highlighted by a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle and a new season-best time for the 200 IM team.
The Falcons' 200 IM relay team made up of Allana Clarke, Kimmy Woolfenden, Corbyn Cormack and Abby Turner, finished third in the event, but clocked a season-best time in doing so, posting a 1:42.43. The 200 free relay team finished third as Sefilina Maile, Abby Turner, Kara Gavin and Lia Campbell swam to a 1:36.21 finish.
Air Force junior Sefilina Maile took the top spot in the 50 freestyle, clocking a (23.49) for the second fastest time in the event by a Falcon this season and second only to her top time. Maile also posted a third-place finish in the 50 backstroke (26.01).
Cormack finished second in the 50 butterfly (25.40) and 200 IM (2:06.93). Teammate Alex Clark finished third behind Cormack in the 200 IM with a 2:08.35. The Falcons' Sophie Boulware finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:06.77).
"The score didn't come out the way we wanted today," head coach Colleen Murphy said. "Our team is in an amazing place heading into our conference championships. Our 200 medley relay went our best time of the season and we had a ton of season bests across the board. We are very excited for the next couple of weeks."
Next up, the Falcons play host at the Air Force Diving Invitational, Thursday to Saturday (Feb. 3-5), in Cadet Natatorium. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m. each day.
Swimming returns to action at the University of Denver for the Last Chance Invitational, February 11-12, at the El Pomar Natatorium. Action on Friday (Feb. 11) begins at 5 p.m., while swimming starts at 10:30 on Saturday.
