DENVER, Colo.- Air Force concluded its day in Denver against the Pioneers and Tigers with a third place finish among the three teams, as Wen Zhang claimed first overall in the 200Y Freestyle, marking the Falcons lone individual title of the afternoon.
"It was a great weekend of racing for us," said head coach Rob Clayton. "Today, being able to race LSU and Denver, which is a huge test for the guys, they did a great job of fighting through."
Zhang's time of 1:36.49 in the 200Y Freestyle was good for first place in the event, with Zhang also placing second in both the 100Y Freestyle and the 500Y Freestyle.
"Wen was able to come from behind and touch out Brooks Curry, who is a 2021 Tokyo Olympian from LSU," said Clayton. "The two of them are two of the top guys in the 200 Free, and it was an exciting race. It was really a great opportunity for Wen to race one of the top swimmers in the NCAA."
Gabriel Bartolomei placed second in the 100Y Backstroke with a time of 51.07, as Tory Bartlett also finished second overall in the 100Y and 200Y Breaststroke.
Alex Kenyon held his own in the diving portion of the event, placing third with a score of 348.40 in the three-meter.
"Our seniors were really outstanding today," Clayton said.
Next, Air Force has two weeks before it returns to action, traveling to Laramie for dual action against Wyoming on Saturday, October 29. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm MT.
