Ryan Child, Ava Gilliana Lead Falcons at UCCS

The pair guided the Falcons' men and women to a multiple top-10 finishes on Friday.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior runners Ryan Child and Ava Gilliana paced their respective squads at Cherokee Ridge this afternoon (Oct. 21), as several members of the Air Force cross country team wrapped up the regular season with a non-scoring meet at the Colorado Springs XC Open.
Child clocked an 8K time of 26:06.21 to finish sixth in the 111-runner event and lead the Falcons to a pair of top-10 finishes. Sophomore Jason Renze joined Child in the near the top of the overall standings, as he posted a time of 26:14.82 to finish ninth. Freshmen Zach Ayers (21st, 26:42.21) and Ethan Ashley (22nd, 26:45.46) finished just three seconds apart to place within the top 25, while classmates Ashton Higgerson (31st, 27:06.30) and Brenton Maddox (35th, 27:21.30) rounded out the Falcons' lineup with top 35 marks.
Backed by Gilliana's ninth-place 6K of 23:30.85, the women also boasted a pair of top 10 finishers in their 94-runner event, as freshman Gina K Lee added a 10th-place time of 23:34.19. Fellow freshmen Ricky Fetterolf and Grace Dailey finished 28th (24:28.66) and 32nd (24:47.31), respectively, while classmate Beatrice Shea rounded out Air Force's lineup with a time of 26:24.09 (61st).
With the regular season complete, the Falcons turn their attention to the championship season, which begins at the 2022 Mountain West Cross Country Championships in Laramie, Wyo., next Friday (Oct. 28).
