With 285 points, the AFXC men remained at No. 5 in the latest USTFCCCA National Rankings
NEW ORLEANS – The Air Force men's cross country team remained at No. 5 in the national rankings this week, as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its latest Division I National Coaches Poll following the conference championships.
Backed by a dominant 1-2-3-6-8 performance at the Mountain West Championships last Friday, the men accumulated 285 points to hold onto their (program-record) No. 5 ranking for the second-straight week. It is the 45th-straight poll where the men have been listed in the national conversation (either as a ranked team or one that is receiving votes) – a program-best streak that dates to the opening of the 2017 season.
Highlighted by an individual title from junior Sean Maison, Air Force easily captured their third-straight Mountain West team title last week. The Falcons, who posted a conference-record low of 20 points in the victory, became the first MW team to claim a 1-2-3 finish, as seniors Ryan Johnson and Ethan Marshall finished right on Maison's heels. In fact, less than eight seconds separated the Falcons' five scoring runners, with senior Sam Gilman placing sixth and sophomore Bryce Lentz finishing eighth.
The women, who finished sixth at the conference meet, continued to receive votes in the latest coaches' poll – tallying two points to stand at No. 37 nationally.
In addition, the men stayed at a program-high No. 3 in the Mountain Region, while the women move to No. 10. The Falcons are off from competition until next Friday (Nov. 11), when they face their regional counterparts at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Albuquerque.
