Air Force Eliminated From MW Championships With 4-2 Setback To San Diego State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Fifth-seed Air Force men's tennis lost to four-seed San Diego State, 4-2, in day one and quarterfinal action at the 2022 Mountain West Men's Tennis Championships, held at the Academy. The Falcons were eliminated from the tournament and cap the season with a 15-9 record, its best since 2005.
Air Force opened with a tough loss in doubles, as the Aztecs rallied back to win at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Air Force won at No. 3 as Nick Vroman and Justin Waldman rolled to a 6-1 win over Mandma/Blair. The Falcons nearly won at No. 2 but fell in the tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5).
In singles, the Falcons went 2-3, picking up wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Freshman Arjun Kersten won at No. 3 over Victor Castro 7-5, 7-5 for Air Force's first win at the MW Championships since 2016. Vroman then rallied back in the second set to win at No. 4 over Alexander Mandma 7-5, 7-6 (7-1), giving Air Force's its most points at the tournament since 2005.
Air Force and San Diego State played indoors due to afternoon wins, after the first two matches of the day were played outdoors.
The Falcons dropped matches at No. 1, 2 and the clinching point at No. 5.
