WAC Announces Academic All-WAC Honorees for Spring 2022 Sports, Freshmen and Transfers

DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference today announced the 2022 Academic All-WAC honorees from baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field, as well as the freshmen/transfer teams for the fall and winter sports. A total of 1,071 student-athletes were honored. Three Falcon freshman made the list in Jason Menninger, Thomas Nagle and Tristan Trax.

To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.

Utah Valley had the most Academic All-WAC honorees with 114, followed by Grand Canyon with 102. There were four schools that had 80-plus student-athletes recognized - Abilene Christian (84), California Baptist (82), Seattle U (82), Stephen F. Austin (81).

There were five spring student-athletes who were honored with significant conference awards for their athletic success. Abilene Christian's Annia Brandenburg was the women's track and field Athlete of the Year, Grand Canyon's Natasha Puehse earned women's tennis Player of the Year with Seattle U's Carley Nance and Stephen F. Austin's Kassidy Wilbur claiming the conference's softball Player and Pitcher of the Year respective accolades. Sam Houston's Clayton Fritsch was the WAC's men's outdoor track and field Athlete of the Year.

Moreover, three spring student-athletes were recognized as the league's Freshman of the Year in their sports - Grace Luderer (Seattle U, softball), Megan Basson (Sam Houston, women's tennis) and Gene Chaikangwall (Sam Houston, women's golf).

Transfer student-athlete Teddy Allen was named the men's basketball Athlete of the Year as he helped NM State to the WAC championship.
