Air Force Director of Athletics Nathan Pine has been named to the NCAA Division I baseball committee, beginning his term for the 2022-23 season.
"It is an honor to be selected to represent Air Force and the Mountain West in this important committee assignment," Pine said. "I look forward to helping to enhance the student-athlete experience, grow the sport and the NCAA Baseball Championship."
In addition to selecting the NCAA tournament field, the 10-person NCAA baseball committee receives recommendations for rule changes and revisions from coaches, umpires and conferences. The committee also recommends rule changes and revisions to the NCAA baseball rules committee.
Pine is in his fifth academic year as the director of athletics at the Air Force Academy after arriving in Colorado Springs in January of 2019. Pine came to Air Force from Holy Cross, where he led the Crusader program as the director of athletics from 2013-18.
Since his arrival, the Falcons have seen success on several important fronts. In terms of comprehensive programmatic success, in 2021-22 Air Force finished as the top service academy in the Learfield Director's Cup, was the top program in the Mountain West Conference for the second straight year and third time in program history and 67th nationally across all of Division I. Individual team highlights have included an individual national championship in rifle, five conference championships, a school-record 14 player of the year honors, five coach of the year awards and 48 athletes earning All-America honors. The Falcons have also tied for a share of the Mountain Division Football Championship in 2021 and beaten PAC-12 Washington State and ACC member Louisville in consecutive bowl game appearances.
Air Force has also experienced record-breaking fundraising numbers since 2019, including new highs in both total number of donors and total dollars raised. This began with a full rebranding of the fundraising program to the Falcon Athletic Fund in the summer of 2019. Formerly known as the Falcon Pride Club, the Falcon Athletic Fund was refreshed and rebranded under Pine's leadership, with increased engagement, giving levels and donor benefits. The Falcon Athletic Fund is responsible for generating private resources required to provide margin of excellence support and a first-class athletic experience for more than 1,000 cadet-athletes across 27 intercollegiate sports.
