Air Force Men’s Water Polo Goes 2-1 In Day Two at Bruno Classic

Air Force men's water polo went 2-1 in day two action at the Bruno Classic Sunday.

The Falcons played Wagner and #19 Brown at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center in Providence, R.I. Air Force came away with a 17-13 win over Wagner and fell to Brown 17-12.

The Falcons played their third match of the day at MIT's pool in Cambridge, MA, coming away with a 19-14 win.

In the Wagner game, the Falcons rallied back from an early deficit to claim the win. Air Force trailed 4-2 after the first quarter and were down 7-4 before rallying to tie the match up 8-8 after two quarters. The Falcons went ahead in the third period by outscoring Wagner 4-3. Air Force pulled away with a 5-2 scoring advantage in the fourth.

Senior Grant Snyder tallied seven goals in the win over Wagner. Senior AJ Kuypers had 17 blocks in goal.

In the second match of the day, Brown erupted for nine goals in the first quarter and held off the Falcons the rest of the way. Snyder scored four goals and junior Ian Christie added three.

At MIT, the Falcons went ahead 6-3 in the first quarter and never looked back. MIT pulled to within one at 10-9 after two quarters but a 6-3 advantage in the third helped Air Force pull away.

Snyder led the Falcons with five goals. Christie added four goals and freshman Jake Dixon chipped in with three.

Air Force completed the Bruno Classic by going 4-2 on the weekend. Both setbacks were to nationally-ranked opponents.

"We played some great teams today," head coach Ryan Brown said. "We were in a great battle versus Wagner and were able to execute down the stretch, testing our mental and physical strength. Then we played host team Brown, a very strong team. We opened strong and then were able to battle back and play even for three quarters. Last, we played at MIT, who was a great test again of our mental strength to play our sixth games in less than 48 hours. I am very proud of our team with all the games this weekend as it gets us ready for the rest of the year."

The Falcons return to action next weekend at the Inland Empire Classic in Redlands and Claremont, CA.
