USAFA, Colo.- The Falcons, facing a dangerous Pioneer squad, were defeated by a score of 290-88 on Saturday.
"The score doesn't reflect what we saw out of our team today," said head coach Colleen Murphy. "We had some really great speed in the short races and pacing in the longer races for this time of the season."
Ayame Castel, Corbyn Cormack, Kara Gavin, and Abby Turner swam to a win in the 200 Free Relay. The foursome triumphed with a time of 1:33.91. The Falcons "C" team placed second, as Shea Burcham, Jessica Loyd, Kai-Min Tsuei, and Annie Webber clocked in at 1:33.56.
The team of Anna Ashley, Corbyn Cormack, Abby Turner, and Kimberly Woolfenden began the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, as the group managed a time of 1:42.74.
Ashley also placed third in the 50 Back after touching out at 25.90. Turner managed a second-place finish, as the sophomore's 23.47 in the 50 Free was .02 seconds behind Denver's Eri Remington. Castel placed fourth in the finals of the 50 Free with a time of 23.86.
Grace Treanor and Gabrielle Peltier finished second and third, respectively, in the 3-meter dive. Treanor was awarded a score of 301.43, while Peltier was given a score of 301.05.
Allana Clarke qualified for the final race in the 50 Fly where she finished in fourth with a time of 25.40.
"Over the next two weeks, we really need to perfect the little things," said Murphy. "Turns and finishes really got us in today's meet and we lost a lot of close races that could have gone our way with better focus and fundamentals."
Next, the swimmers will get a break from the action, as the Falcons host the Air Force Diving Invitational with the event starting February 2.
