COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following strong performances at the Colorado Springs XC Open, sophomore Will Allen and freshman Patrick Lawson were named the Mountain West Men's Cross Country Athletes of the Week – marking the second MW award sweep of the season for the Falcons. Allen was honored as the MW Runner of the Week, while Lawson was named the MW Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
Allen (Trevor, Wis.) won the 111-runner men's 8K around Monument Valley Park with a career-best time of 25:03.4, edging a teammate by 0.5 seconds to claim the win and lead the Falcons to a 1-2-3 finish in the race. Allen, the first Falcon to win UCCS's mid-season race since Air Force started racing there in 2019, deleted nearly 20 seconds off his season-opening time from Denver. Lawson (Havertown, Pa.), the top freshman finisher in the field, clocked a career-best 8K time of 25:27.8 to finish seventh in the race and lead the men to four of the top-seven places.
It is the first conference award for Allen and the second Freshman of the Week honor for Lawson, who also captured the award after helping Air Force win the Roadrunner Invitational.
