
Air Force falls in home debut against Denver

COLORADO SPRINGS- The Falcons opened their home schedule against the Pioneers on Friday, though Air Force was defeated 175.00-68.00 at Cadet Natatorium.
"I was really pleased with the progress we've made in the last three weeks," said head swimming coach Rob Clayton. "We saw a lot of things we've been working on since Grand Junction that we've been focused on showed up in races. The guys swam significantly better."
Freshman Tyler Surratt was the lone Falcon to notch a winning time, placing first in the 500 Freestyle after touching out at 4:46.34.
"(Tyler) was the highlight of the meet," said Clayton. "He just went out smooth and strong from start to finish."
James Winterfield came up just short in the 200 Freestyle, though his time of 1:42.49 in the 200 Freestyle was good for second place. Kellen Russell (1:56.55) and Daniel Detjen (1:58.04) earned second and third place standing in the 200 Butterfly.
Louis Body swam to a strong finish in the 200 Backstroke, touching out second as the result of a 1:53.31 finish. Oh so close, Anthony Sebastian finished .21 seconds behind the winning swimmer in the 200 Breaststroke.
On the boards, Alex Kenyon offered a strong showing in the 3-Meter Dive, having been judged for 314.55 points. He also finished second in the 1-Meter Dive (322.05).
Camden Swigart finished third in the 400 IM, notching a time of 4:09.27. Gavin Peterman also placed third, racing to a time of 46.91 in the 100 Freestyle.
"We had a lot of guys that had a lot of good swims," said Clayton. "I'm really proud of the hard work the guys put in day in and day out.
"We're excited for Wyoming tomorrow, should be a great meet."
Air Force will battle Wyoming tomorrow at Cadet Natatorium, with the meet scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm MT.
