No. 7 Air Force travels to PRC Championships

This Week: Air Force travels to Fairbanks, Alaska, for the annual Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 4-5. The smallbore championship will be held on Saturday at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range starting at 7:00 am AT (9:00 am MT). The air rifle competition will be Sunday in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium starting at 10:00 am AT (Noon MT). About the PRC Championships: Five of the six teams in the PRC are ranked in the top 11 in the nation. Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, will compete for the conference title against No. 1 TCU, No. 2 Alaska, No. 3 TCU, No. 6 Nebraska , No. 11 Ohio State and UTEP. Alaska won the title last season. TCU won back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021 and has won five of the last seven championships. Air Force won the title in 2019 and has hosted the championships in 2015, 2018 and 2022.
Last Season at the PRC: Alaska won the PRC Championship in 2022 with an aggregate score of 4752, at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Rifle Range. TCU placed second in the conference with an aggregate score of 4726 (2345-2381). TCU competed virtually due to poor weather that did not allow them to leave the Fort Worth area. Ohio State placed third with a 4694 while Air Force was fourth (4689), Nebraska was fifth (4670) and UTEP was sixth (4553). Alaska's Rylan Kissell shot a perfect 600 in air rifle and won the aggregate with an 1190. Morgan Kreb was the top Falcon, placing fourth overall, at 1184 after shooting 585 in smallbore and 599 in air rifle. Kreb placed second in the air rifle competition and seventh in small bore and posted a career high in both events. Scott Rockett was sixth overall with an 1182. Kreb and Rockett tied for the team lead in smallbore with a 585 each. Dante Aletto and Jordan Williams shot 575 while Lauren Hurley shot 574 and Peninah D'Souza came in at 570. Kreb was also the top Falcon in air rifle at 599, followed closely by Rocket at 597. Hurley shot a 594 for eighth place. Aletto and D'Souza shot 591, followed by Williams (587).
Last Week: Air Force earned a pair of wins and posted the second highest score of the season in a tri-meet at The Citadel, Saturday, Jan. 28, in Charleston, S.C. Air Force's aggregate score of 4718 was the second highest score of the season (4723 vs. TCU) and defeated both The Citadel (4607) and VMI (4542). Junior Peninah D'Souza was the top individual with an 1184 aggregate score. Junior Morgan Kreb and sophomores Lauren Hurley and Scott Rockett tied for second at 1178. Dante Aletto was fifth at 1166. D'Souza and Hurley tied for the smallbore title at 587. Kreb was third (585) and Rockett (582) was fourth. In air rifle, D'Souza shot a 597 to claim top honors. Rockett was second (596), followed by Kreb (593) and Aletto (593).
Top Performances: Junior Dante Aletto posted career highs of 579 smallbore and 1169 aggregate (at OSU) and 593 air rifle (President's Cup and Citadel). Junior Peninah D'Souza's 587 smallbore and 1186 aggregate against TCU were her career highs. Sophomore Lauren Hurley set career highs in smallbore (587 at Citadel), air rifle (600 at Ohio State) and aggregate (1182 at Ohio State). Junior Morgan Kreb's 590 in smallbore against WVU/TCU was her career high. Freshman Victoria Leppert shot career highs of 581 smallbore and 1173 aggregate against TCU and a 594 air rifle at Nebraska. Sophomore Scott Rockett's season highs in smallbore (589) and aggregate (1186) came against TCU while his season-high 598 air rifle was shot twice this season. Senior Jordan Williams' smallbore career high (587) and aggregate season high (1181) came at Akron while his season high 595 in air rifle came at the President's Trophy.
National Rankings: Sophomore Lauren Hurley's perfect score of 600 in air rifle against Ohio State (Nov. 20) is one of just five perfect scores on the season. Junior Peninah D'Souza's 599 in air rifle (Oct. 2) is tied as the sixth best in the nation. Air Force's air rifle team score of 2385 (Oct. 2) is the 12th best score in the nation this season.
NCAA Qualifier at USAFA: Air Force will wrap up the home schedule by hosting an NCAA Qualifer, Saturday, Feb. 18, starting at 9 am at the Cadet Rifle Range.
