WASHINGTON, D.C. – Air Force posted three bonus point wins and won seven weight classes to outscore American U, 28-13, Sunday afternoon in Bender Arena. The Falcons are now 8-4 in dual action heading into the final meet of the season.
Air Force freshman 125-pounder Tucker Owens had a stellar road trip, posting his second bonus point win on the weekend as he pinned Maximilian Leete 38 seconds into the second period. The win marked Owens 23rd overall and fifth pin this season.
Cody Phippen, the 9th-ranked 133-pounder in the most recent RPI rankings, carried the momentum into his bout, handing Jack Maida a 17-3 major decision. Phippen posted a technical fall on Friday and capped the trip with more bonus points. Owens and Phippen are both 8-1 in dual action for the Falcons.
No. 5/6 Wyatt Hendrickson continued his dominant roll with his second pin of the weekend, 13th of the season, against Will Jarrell. Hendrickson tallied his 22nd win of the year and remains perfect in dual meets.
Air Force tallied decision wins in four other weight classes. No. 30 senior Dylan Martinez bested Patrick Ryan, 4-1, for his 17th win of the year. At 157, Jack Ganos was convincing in his 9-5 win over Jack Nies. No. 16 Sam Wolf jumped back into action with a dominant 8-1 decision and his 11th win of the season. Wolf is 5-0 in dual meets and only has one loss on his record in the 2022-23 campaign. AF 184-pounder Noah Blake rounded out the Falcon scorers with a gritty 3-1 decision win over Carsten Rawls.
The Eagles picked up decision wins at 141 and 165, while also tacking on six points due to an injury default at 197.
Next up, the Falcons travel to Greeley, Colorado, to square off against in-state Big 12 rivals, Northern Colorado in the regular season finale. The dual is slated for a 2 p.m. MT start on Sunday, February 19.
