
Air Force Fencing With Six NCAA Championship Qualifiers

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Six cadet-athletes from Air Force fencing have qualified for the 2003 NCAA Fencing Championships, announced today by the NCAA. The six are part of the field of 144 who will participate at the championships, held March 23-26 at Cameron Indoor Stadium on the Duke University campus in Durham, N.C.
On the men's side, senior Matthew Han, junior Ned Maurer and freshman Jack Griffith qualified. On the women's side, junior Josie Ratzlaff and freshmen Melissa Kline and Mira Vestel qualified.
Han earned his fourth NCAA qualification in men's epee. Maurer and Griffith both qualified for the first time in men's foil. Griffith is coming off a standout weekend where he earned both the NCAA West Regional and MPSF foil titles.
Ratzlaff earned her second trip to the NCAAs and will compete in women's epee. She finished third at both the NCAA West Regional and MSPF Championships. Kline earns her first NCAA qualification and will compete in women's foil. She finished third at the NCAA West Regional and was runner-up at the MPSF Championships. Vestel also earned her first trip to the NCAAs and will compete in women's saber. She was the runner-up at both the NCAA West Regional and MPSF Championships.
