MINNEAPOLIS- Wen Zhang made his first appearance at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, swimming in the 50 Freestyle preliminaries earlier this morning.
Zhang did not advance towards an evening swim, as his time of 19.99 was short of the championship qualifying standards.
Tennessee's Jordan Crooks finished first-overall in the morning race, as his 18.25 paced the field. Zhang needed to be best a time of 18.87, set by Virginia Tech's Youssef Ramadan and Arizona State's Jack Dolan, in order to have secured a position for a finals swim
The senior will compete in the 200 Freestyle on Friday, the event in which Zhang has statistically thrived. His entry time of 1:31.42 sits as the fifth-best time in Division I this season.
Zhang will prepare to return to the pool when the preliminaries begin at 9:00 am MT on March 24.
