U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. – The Falcon Athletic Fund announced today the creation of the Thin Air Society, a leadership giving society in support of Air Force Athletics, its 27 intercollegiate athletic programs and 1,000 cadet-athletes.
The Thin Air Society's mission is to increase philanthropic contributions for Air Force Athletics, supporting operational needs, facility improvements and other critical needs throughout the department. Thin Air Society members will provide crucial funding as Air Force Athletics aims to provide a transformational intercollegiate athletic experience and first-class development environment for our cadet-athletes.
"Membership in the Thin Air Society represents the highest level of commitment a donor can make to Air Force Athletics, the Falcon Athletic Fund, and our cadet-athletes. These critical investments will aide our cadet-athletes as they compete, develop, Fly, Fight, and Win. I'd like to thank all of those for considering a gift that will transform the development of future leaders in our Air and Space Forces and leave a legacy for classes to come." Director of Athletics Nathan Pine
The goal of the Thin Air Society is to provide an additional $5 million in restricted and unrestricted gifts, to the current Falcon Athletic Fund annual fundraising total. To date, the 47 members of the First Class have provided $2.66 million overall and $480,000 annually, in additional fundraising revenue. The Falcon Athletic Fund has set a goal to have 200 Thin Air Society members by 2025.
Air Force Athletics would like to thank our First Class, the founding members of the Thin Air Society. Their commitment represents their unwavering support of and belief in our cadet-athletes. This inaugural group represents 23 graduating classes and alumni and families across 18 intercollegiate programs.
Thin Air Society membership requires a minimum pledge of $25,000 over a five-year period or by donating an annual cash gift of $25,000 or more. Air Force Athletics and its programs will establish top priorities, but Thin Air Society members will have the flexibility to designate their gift to the fund and program of their choice. These funds include the Excellence in Athletics Fund, all 27 intercollegiate programs, boxing, spirit squads, and other athletic department strategic initiatives. The purchasing of premium seats in the Blue & Silver Club or new Falcon Stadium East Club do not factor into Thin Air Society membership.
While philanthropic in nature, Thin Air Society members will enjoy unique stewardship opportunities, based on their giving level, tailored to the donor's preferences. The greatest reward of being a Thin Air Society member will always be knowing the gift will have an impact on the overall development of leaders of character for future officers of our Air and Space Forces.
