Jalan Rivers Named MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- After a career-best outing at the Drake Relays last weekend in Iowa, Air Force sophomore Jalan Rivers was selected as the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week by the conference office this afternoon (May 2). It is the first weekly MW honor for the Humble, Texas, native.

With a personal-best high jump clearance of 2.17m (7'1½") – the second-best height in Academy history, Rivers was the top collegiate finisher (second overall) in the Invitational section of the high jump and captured the program's first Drake Relays' pennant in that event since 1964.

Rivers was a perfect four-for-four on first attempt clearances, enroute to becoming just the third Falcon to surpass the seven-foot bar during outdoor competition (7'0¼"). He improved that clearance two attempts later with a successful make at 7'1½" – the program's best outdoor clearance in 26 years. It is the second-best clearance in Air Force history and the fourth-best height in Mountain West history.

The current conference leader, Rivers is currently ranked 13th in the NCAA.
