NEW ORLEANS – The Air Force men's cross country team received a No. 17 ranking in the preseason edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division I National Coaches Poll, which was released this afternoon (Aug. 30) by the USTFCCCA office. The Falcons, who were selected as Mountain West favorites last week, are the only conference team listed in the men's Top 30.
Despite graduating its top three finishers from last year's squad that placed seventh at the NCAA Championships, the men return a strong lineup in 2023. Air Force tallied 161 points to earn the No. 17 placement in the preseason standings. It is the 48th-straight poll where Air Force's men have been mentioned in the national conversation (either ranked or receiving votes) – a program-best streak dating back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.
In addition to the national preseason poll, the USTFCCCA announced its regional standings on Aug. 29, with the men earning a No. 4 placement in the Mountain Region.
On the women's side, Air Force received votes in the national poll and was ranked No. 7 in the regional standings. Both marks are the Falcons' best preseason placements since the start of the 2019 season.
The Falcons open the 2023 campaign this Friday (Sept. 1) with the AFXC Classic in Colorado Springs.
