Air Force preps for new season at Horsetooth Open Water Swim

FORT COLLINS- On Sunday, Air Force made its annual trip to compete at the Horsetooth Open Water Swim, as the Falcons inch closer to the start of the 2023-24 regular season.

"The Horsetooth Open Water Swim is a great way to kick off our season," said head swimming coach Colleen Murphy. "The distance group really enjoys an opportunity to do something different and it is great training. We took 11 women and they really came together as a team to swim fast and have some fun."

Air Force's Katie Kucik finished second among the 60 women participating in the 2.4-mile swim. Kucik ended the race with a time of 41:17.

With swimmers hailing from Northern Colorado, Colorado State, Colorado School of Mines, and Wyoming as well, Air Force saw six swimmers finish in the Top 15 in the women's group.

Including Kucik, Katie Andrist (42:26), Jessica Smith (42:33), Lauren Arnold (42:41), Naomi Furman (42:55) and Natalie Gembicki (42:55) all completed the race with times among the 14 highest finishers.

Air Force will participate in its final preseason tuneup when the Falcons host the annual Blue-Silver Intersquad scrimmage on Friday, September 22.
