USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - ADi Nott has been named interim head fencing coach for 2023-24 at the Air Force Academy, according to an announcement today from Director of Athletics Nathan Pine. Nott replaces Adam Skarbonkiewicz, who is not coming to the Academy.
"We are disappointed that Coach Skarbonkiewicz will not be joining us at the Academy," Pine said. "We always focus on what's best for our cadet-athletes and given this recent development, I am pleased to announce Coach Nott will assume the role of interim head coach and lead our fencing program this season. She has played an integral coaching role in our program's rise and was a highly successful collegiate fencer before that. We are fortunate to have a leader of Coach Nott's caliber to lead and continue to build our fencing program."
ADi Nott enters her third season with Air Force fencing, previously serving as an assistant coach with an emphasis on the foil weapon.
In 2022-23 Nott was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Fencing Assistant Coach of the Year. She was part of the Air Force staff that earned six NCAA qualifiers, which tied for the second-most in the program's history. The Falcons finished 11th at the NCAA's for its second-best finish at the NCAA's since 2003. Air Force was also the top finishing MPSF program.
Nott was instrumental in guiding three foil fencers to the NCAAs for the Falcons in freshman Jack Griffth, junior Ned Maurer and freshman Melissa Kline. Griffith had a standout rookie campaign for the Falcons, being crowned the NCAA West Regional and MPSF Men's Foil Champion and also earning MPSF Men's Freshman Fencer of the Year.
In 2021-22, Nott helped senior Nestor Levin qualify for the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the men's foil. Levin capped a standout four-year career by finishing 13th at the NCAA's and earning USFCA All-West Region and First-Team All-MPSF honors.
Prior to her stint at Air Force, Nott spent five seasons as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania.
Nott helped guide Penn to three Ivy League Men's Team Championships during her tenure. In addition, she helped coach 19 Ivy Champions, 18 NCAA Championship qualifiers and 11 NCAA All-Americans.
Prior to her time at Penn, Nott was a decorated fencer at Notre Dame, graduating in 2009. She was a four-time NCAA Fencing All-American (foil). In addition to also captaining the team during her four seasons, Nott was named an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2008.
Not only successful in the collegiate ranks, Nott also competed on the U.S. Women's Junior World Championship team in 2006 and the U.S. Women's Foil Team in 2011. She has also coached at four different fencing clubs, and it is currently an ACE certified Group Fitness Instructor. Most recently, Nott won first place in the women's foil event at the October NAC in 2017.
Nott recently completed a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Penn's School of Social Policy & Practice.
