Air Force Goes 2-0 In Day Two At Titan Invite

Air Force men's water polo (9-8) swept a pair of games Saturday at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The Falcons defeated Austin College 16-6 and rallied to defeat Biola 18-17 in sudden-death triple overtime.

In the opener against Austin, Air Force pulled away from a three-score game by out-scoring the Kangaroos 7-0 in the second half.

The Falcons took a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and were up 9-6 at the half. Air Force outscored Austin 3-0 in the third and 4-0 in the fourth. Sohomore Luca Smith had 12 saves in goal for the win.

Freshman Tom Leggett scored five points on four goals and an assist. Freshman Jack Richards also scored four goals and sophomore Jackson Carter had four points on a goal and three assists. Senior Joey Schell and freshman Alex Zarcu scored two goals each and senior Cole Kopperud added two assists. Senior Ian Christie had two goals and an assist.

In the second game against Biola, the Falcons rallied back from a late deficit to pull the game out in sudden-death triple overtime.

Air Force trailed 15-13 after a Biola goal with 3:19 to play. Jacob Yi netted a score with 2:32 to pull the Falcons to within one. Leggett then tied it up with 11 seconds left to ultimately send the game to overtime.

After trading two goals in the first two overtimes, freshman Alex Zarcu scored the golden goal at the 2:18 mark in the third overtime to complete the rally.

Junior Liam Marcus had 13 saves in front of the net for the win in goal. Leggett notched seven points on four goals and three assists. He completed the day with 12 points. Richards scored four points with a hat trick and an assist. Christie scored five points with a goal and four assists.

Kaito Ham and Yi added two goals.

Air Force returns to action next weekend at the Gary Troyer Tournament in Claremont/Pomona, Calif.
