Air Force Men Vault to No. 8 in USTFCCCA Rankings
9/26/2023 12:12:00 PM | Cross Country
NEW ORLEANS – The Air Force men's cross country team vaulted up nine spots to No. 8 in the latest edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division I National Coaches Poll, which was released this afternoon (Sept. 26) by the USTFCCCA office.
Air Force earned its nine-spot jump in the national rankings – the second-highest improvement of any team in this week's Top 30 – after placing sixth in a 24-team field that included 18 nationally-ranked teams at the prestigious Virginia Invitational last Saturday in Charlottesville. Backed by top-20 finishes from seniors Sean Maison and Luke Combs, the men accumulated 189 points to finish ahead of three (previous) top-10 teams.
It is the ninth time the men have earned a top-10 national ranking – and marked the second-highest placement for the Falcons in program history. Air Force's ranking also marks the 50th-straight poll where the men have been mentioned in the national conversation (either ranked or receiving votes) – a program-best streak dating back to the opening poll of the 2017 season.
In addition to the national standings the men moved up to No. 3 in the Mountain Region – a placement that equals the highest regional ranking in program history that was first reached last year.
The Falcons return to action on Oct. 6, when they head back to Monument Valley Park for the UCCS Open.
