Air Force Goes 2-0 at Troyer Invite and Drop Game at No. 1 UCLA On Saturday

Air Force (13-9 overall, 0-0 WCC) went 2-1 in three games Saturday in California. The Falcons won both of its games at the Gary Troyer Invite, defeating Mount St. Mary's 20-8 and Penn State-Behrend 23-4 and then fell 14-8 at No. 1 UCLA in its third game.

In the opener against Mount St. Mary's, the Falcons pulled away with a dominant second half. Air Force opened with a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and 12-7 at the half. Then the Falcons outscored the Mountaineers 8-1 in the second half to roll to the win.

Tom Leggett continued to lead the Falcons with a career-high seven goals. Freshman classmate Jack Richards scored five points on three goals and two assists. Ian Christie and Colin Chase added two goals and Jacob Yi had three assists. Liam Markus had three saves in the start and win in goal. Luca Smith had five saves in the second half.

The Falcons dominated from the get-go in the Penn State-Behrend game. Air Force scored the first 13 goals of the game and led 7-0 after the first quarter and 14-1 at the half.

Freshman Owen Imasaki scored a career-high five goals in the win. Richards, Jake Dixon, Joey Schell and Bruce Kim notched four points each. Dixon scored four goals. Jonah Vander Veen and Michael Gao score three points each, with Gao recording a hat trick.

Smith had seven saves in the start and win in goal. Markus played the second half, recording eight saves.

Against the nation's top-ranked team, Air Force kept it close, but ultimately fell to snap their six-game win streak. The teams battled to a 3-3 tie after the first quarter. The difference was the second quarter, where the Bruins out-scored the Falcons 5-1 to take a 8-4 lead. The teams traded two goals each in the third quarter and UCLA out-scored Air Force 4-2 in the fourth.

Leggett led the Falcons with a hat trick. Yi added two goals. Smith had three saves in goal.

Air Force is off from competition next week. The Falcons return to action Oct. 14 hosting San Jose State.
