Air Force travels to Commander-in-Chief’s Cup, Oct. 14-15

THIS WEEK: Air Force will compete in the second annual Commander-in-Chief's Cup, Oct. 14-15, at the Scottsdale National Golf Course in Scottsdale, Ariz. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard by Clippd.
THE FORMAT: Teams will play 18 holes each day in the 36-hole tournament. In most college tournaments, five golfers play for each team and the top four count. However, in the C-in-C Cup, teams play eight golfers with the top six counting.
SCHEDULE UPDATE: "Due to the impacts of Hurricane Milton, the Commander-in-Chief's Cup has been relocated to Scottsdale National GC. Thank you to Bob Parsons and the members of Scottsdale National for agreeing to host the CIC on such short notice. The event will be 36 holes, 18 holes each day Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 15. Due to the short notice, spectators will not be permitted. " The tournament was originally scheduled for the Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup this week will be: 1-Eli Huntington; 2-Cameron Kahle; 3-Ted Davenport; 4- Eric Liveringhouse; 5-Chris Park; 6-Alvaro Fonseca; 7-Brooks Morrell; 8-Carson Baker.
LAST TIME AT COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF'S CUP: Army won the inaugural Commander-in-Chief's Cup on a tiebreaker as both the Black Knights and Navy each shot a 54-hole team score of 1360. Air Force was third at 1373, April 17-18, at the Robert Trent Jones Club in Gainesville, Va. In most college tournaments, five golfers play for each team and the top four count. However, in the C-in-C Cup, teams play eight players with the top six counting. Isaac Layne was the top Falcon, shooting a 223 over the 54-hole tournament. Navy's Keegan Shreves won the individual title at 218. Layne, along with Navy's Chip Deegan and Army's Joshua Kim all tied for second. Cameron Kahle, a sophomore at the time, tied for sixth overall with a 227, followed by Brooks Morrell (230), Christopher Park (232), Alvaro Fonseca (234), Ted Davenport (242).
HISTORY OF SERVICE ACADEMY GOLF: This is the inaugural year of the C-in-C Cup, but it's not the first tournament of its kind. Air Force, Army and Navy competed in the Service Academy Golf Classic from 1993 to 2012 (except for a two-year hiatus in 2007-08). Army won the first two tournaments and then Air Force won 16 consecutive tournaments, tying Army in the final event in 2012. The Classic, held in the Dallas area for its first 14 years, was moved to Andrews AFB, Md., for 2009 and 2010, before landing at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., in 2011 and Trump National in Colts Neck, N.J., for the 2012 tournament. The Falcons claimed 12 individual titles at the Service Academy Golf Classic, highlighted by an unprecedented four straight titles from Ben Leestma (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). Other Air Force golfers to claim the SAGC individual title were Owen Shippler (1994), Trey Treadwell (1995), Matt Peterson (1997), Adam Wasinger (2002), Ben Jackman (2004 - co), Tom Whitney (2006) and Kyle Westmoreland (2011).
LAST TIME OUT: . The Falcons placed 16th at the Mark Simpson CU Invitational, Sept. 30-Oct. 1, with a three-round team score of 876 (+12). The 876 is the best score of the season as the Falcons have posted five straight rounds of 294 or better. Colorado State won the tournament with an 828 (-36). Air Force shot a 290 (+2) in the final round, the best road round of the season and tied as the second best round anywhere this season. Eric Liveringhouse led the Falcons with a collegiate career-best round of 69 (-3) in the final round. The 69 is the second best round by a Falcon this season and the best on the road. Sophomore Eli Huntington was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament, tying for 36th of 104 golfers with a 214 (72-71-71Liveringhouse finished the tournament with a 221 (+5), his best 54-hole score in a team-scoring event. Ted Davenport shot 75 on the final day and also finished at 221 (+5), his best score in a team-scoring event. Alvaro Fonseca finished at 225 and Brooks Morrell shot 230. Sophomore Carson Baker, competing as an individual, shot 238.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Sophomore Eli Huntington leads the team with a season stroke average of 72.78. He has five straight rounds at par or better dating back to the first round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 21.His collegiate career best round of 67, the best by a Falcon this season, came in the final round of the GMFI. Junior Alvaro Fonseca is second at 73.67, followed by Brooks Morrell (74.50), Chris Park (74.67) and Eric Liveringhouse (74.78).
