Falcons place second at conference championships

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. –The Air Force rifle team finished in second place at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 4, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, shot a 4729, the second highest score of the season. TCU, ranked second in the nation, won the match with a 4739. Fourth-ranked Alaska was third (4727), followed by Nebraska (4711), Ohio State (4704) and TCU (4568).
The second-place finish is the highest since a second-place finish in 2021 and ties as the best since the 2019 Falcons won the conference.
On Saturday, the Falcons shot a 2348, the second-highest smallbore score of the season and the fourth-highest in school history. Senior Morgan Kreb and junior Lauren Hurley each reached the finals in smallbore. Kreb and Hurley each shot a 590 to reach the final round. In the finals, Kreb finished fifth and Hurley finished sixth. Scott Rockett shot a 585, followed by Peninah D'Souza (583) and Victoria Leppert (576). Dante Aletto shot a 579 and Megan Torrence shot 571.
In Sunday's air rifle competition, the Falcons shot a 2381, tied as the best score of the season. Leppert won the air rifle with a career-best 599. Hurley shot a 595, while Kreb shot 594, D'Souza shot 593 and Rockett and Torrence shot 592 and Aletto shot 585.
Hurley placed third in aggregate with an 1185 while Kreb was fifth with an 1184.
Air Force hosts an NCAA Qualifier against TCU, Saturday, Feb. 17, at 8 am at the Cadet Rifle Range.
