8/1/2024 12:58:00 PM | Cross Country
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Headlined by the Mountain West Cross Country Championships being held on Academy grounds for just the second time in program history, the Air Force cross country team announced its eight-meet schedule for the upcoming 2024 season this afternoon (Aug. 1).
The Falcons kick off the campaign on Aug. 30, when they host the annual AFXC Classic at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs. The squad then travels to Lincoln, Neb., to race at the Woody Greeno / Jay Dirksen Invitational on Sept. 21, before closing out the month at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Sept. 27. Air Force will compete twice in October, with return trips to Colorado Springs (UCCS Open on Oct. 11) and Madison (Pre-Nationals on Oct. 19) on the schedule.
Air Force's championship run begins at USAFA this season, as the team will welcome their conference counterparts to Eisenhower Golf Course for the Mountain West Championships on Friday, Nov. 1. The meet, previously held at the Academy in 2013, will be contested on Eisenhower's Blue Course. The Falcons will race at the NCAA Mountain Regional in Reno, Nev., on Nov. 23, before closing out the season with another trip to Madison for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23.
The Air Force men, who have claimed three of the last four conference titles, return three all-conference honorees to this year's roster, while the women return a pair of all-MW runners from a 2023 squad that matched its second-highest team finish at the conference meet (third).
