8/20/2024 10:00:00 AM | Men's Tennis
Air Force men's tennis welcomes two freshmen that comprise the class of 2028, including the top-ranked incoming freshman in the nation, announced today by head coach Evan Urbina. The duo of Matthew Staton and Langdon Tingleaf come to the Academy as a pair of highly-rated TennisRecruting.net recruits.
Staton, a native of Bristow, Va., comes to the Academy as the nations #1 overall recruit and a Blue Chip designation by TennisRecruiting.net. Tingleaf, a native of Owasso, Okla., is a five-star rated player and the #2 ranked player in the state of Oklahoma. Despite just two players in the class, the duo helped Air Force to a #9 mid-major ranking for the class of 2028.
Head Coach Evan Urbina on the freshman class:
"I'm thrilled to welcome Matt and Langdon to our program. I'm confident they'll bring exceptional leadership, character, and elite tennis skills to the distinguished legacy of Air Force Tennis. From day one, we'll empower them to positively contribute to our team culture.
Matt, a lefty with a powerful game, is known for his mental toughness. Langdon, an all-court player, excels in adapting his game to compete at the highest level. Both come to us highly ranked as juniors, and we're excited to work with them on the practice court. They have supportive families and a dedicated team at USAFA focused on their success. I'm confident they'll help us keep momentum with recruiting as we seek to attract the best American junior tennis players.
I encourage our fans to come watch them and the rest of our team play at the Blue vs. Silver match on August 29 at 3 p.m. or at the Bedford Cup next month."
