COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Air Force cross country team capped the regular season with a sweep of the weekly Mountain West Runner of the Week awards this afternoon (Oct. 14), as junior Ella Johnson was named the women's runner of the week and senior Jayden Nats captured the men's runner of the week award.
Johnson had a stellar outing at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore., on Oct. 10, as she clocked a 6K time of 20:09.3 to finish fifth out of 107 runners – the only runner in the top six not from host Oregon, the fourth-ranked team in the NCAA. Posting the second-fastest 6K of her career, Johnson recorded the highest individual finish ever by an Air Force runner at that meet and paced the women to a runner-up finish in the 11-team meet that included three Power 4 programs.
Nats also had a strong race in Oregon, using a ninth-place finish to lead the 23rd-ranked Falcons to a runner-up finish behind the 14th-ranked Ducks. With the second-fastest 8K finish of his career (23:31.1), the senior recorded the second-highest finish ever for the Falcons at that meet and was one of two Academy runners to collect top-10 finishes in the 89-runner event around the Pine Ridge Golf Club.
It is the first MW Runner of the Week award for both Falcons.
Air Force returns to competition on Friday, Oct. 31, when it travels to Fresno, Calif., for the 2025 Mountain West Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park.
