INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The 28th-ranked Air Force men's cross country team, as well as two members of the women's team, earned bids to next week's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the selection committee announced this afternoon (Nov. 15).
The men captured the 21st selection to the national championship race following a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Mountain Regional, which was held yesterday in Salt Lake City. The Falcons, who have earned team bids to the seven of the last nine NCAA Championships, saw senior Jayden Nats place third and all five scoring runners finish within the top 35 of a regional meet that included four of the nation's top 10 teams.
Senior India Jones and junior Ella Johnson earned their first bid to the starting line of the NCAA Championships after finishing 11th and 12th, respectively, at the Mountain Regional. The pair, who qualified after finishing as two of the top-four regional finishers not an advancing team, will mark the ninth time in 11 years that Air Force has been represented in the women's national race – after having just one appearance in the previous 18.
In all, 31 teams and 38 individuals were selected for both the men's and women's championship races. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships are slated for next Saturday (Nov. 22) at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
