Air Force Drops 32-6 Dual Against Utah Valley

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force picked up a pair of ranked wins in the 32-6 Big 12 Conference dual loss to Utah Valley, Friday night, in Clune Arena. The Falcons drop to 4-6, 0-6 Big 12, while the Wolverines improved to 4-7, 2-4 Big 12.

Senior co-team captain Tucker Owens, ranked No. 15 in the NCAA RPI rankings earlier this week but unranked in major publications, knocked off No. 25 Bridger Ricks in a gritty SV1 victory to get the Falcons off to a hot start. Owens, with his second ranked win in Big 12 duals, improved to 17 overall wins and an 8-2 mark in dual action (4-2 Big 12).

Air Force 141-pounder Carter Nogle had the highlight performance of the night as he knocked off NCAA qualifier, No. 18 Haiden Drury, 5-4. Nogle, ranked No. 25 in the NCAA RPI but unranked in major publications, was first to score with a first-period takedown. Dury responded with an escape soon after, and a second-period takedown to take knot the match at four heading into the final period. Nogle, from the top position, secured the win with commanding two-minute ride. Nogle improved to 16 wins on the season with an 8-3 record in dual meets, 4-2 in the Big 12.

The Falcons wrestled tight matches at 154 and 197. Logan Fowler dropped a 4-1 loss to Zyon Trujillo at 165 while #30 Karson Tompkins gave up an early to drop a 5-4 match against No. 28 Kael Bennie.

Utah Valley scored bonus points in five of their bouts.

Air Force is proud to host a free youth clinic (K-8) prior to the February 15 Big 12 dual against California Baptist. Aspiring young athletes can join the Band of Birds in the wrestling room starting at 10:30 a.m. Clinic check-in beings at 10:15 while the clinic concludes at 11:30 a.m. The Falcon youths are encouraged to stay after the dual for an autograph signing.
