
Air Force Fencing Sweeps MPSF Fencer Of Week Honors

Air Force fencing swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Fencer of the Week honors for competition during the week fo Jan. 26-Feb. 1, announced today by the conference office. Senior Melissa Kline earned MPSF Women's Fencer of the Week and senior Jack Griffith earned Men's Fencer of the Week. This is the second-career weekly honor for Kline and the third for Griffith.
Kline posted a 17-2 overall record in foil last weekend, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, at the Schiller Duals in Evanston, Ill.. She Mission Hills, Kan., native went undefeated against six of eight opponents faced, including a 2-0 mark against #14 Temple, a 2-0 mark against MPSF rival Incarnate Word and a win against #2 Notre Dame. This Kline's second appearance in competition this season, after missing almost her entire junior season due to a knee injury.
Griffith went undefeated at 24-0 overall at the Schiller Duals in foil. The Naples, Fla., native went 3-0 against eight opponents, including a 3-0 mark against #1 Notre Dame and MPSF rival UIW.
Air Force had a strong showing at the Schiller Duals, combining to earn 13 team wins, including a 7-1 run by the men's team.
Air Force returns to action with a pair of events this weekend. The women's team competes at the Beguinet Classic in Durham, NC, Saturday, Feb. 7, followed by the men's team at the Miller Invitational in Chapel Hill, NC, Sunday, Feb. 8.
