Air Force travels to Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Feb. 7-8

This Week: The Air Force rifle team will compete in the annual Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 7-8, at the X Count in Fort Wayne, Ind. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink. Teams will compete in smallbore on Saturday and air rifle on Sunday.
New Location: The PRC Championships were originally scheduled for Oxford, Miss., with Ole Miss as the host, but the championships had to relocate due to winter storm conditions impacting local power and transportation. The X Count in Fort Wayne was the host for last season's conference championships.
The Rankings: Air Force's aggregate season average of 4693.27 is 12th in the nation, while the smallbore score of 2321.27 is 15th and the air rifle average of 2372.00 is 12th.
About the PRC: Seven teams will battle for the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind. All seven PRC teams rank in the top 13 in the nation. The PRC consists of: TCU (No. 3), Nebraska (No. 4), Ole Miss (No. 5), Alaska (No. 7), UTEP (No. 10), Ohio State (No. 12) and Air Force (No. 13).
Last Year at the PRC: Air Force finished fourth at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind. Air Force shot a 4706 over the two-day event. Alaska won the conference title with a 4758. Ole Miss was second (4746), followed by TCU (4732) in third. Nebraska was fifth (4699), Ohio State was sixth (4694) and UTEP was seventh (4670). In smallbore, Scott Rockett led the Falcons with a 587 to place 11th. William Steen shot a career-best 585 to place 16th, followed by Lauren Hurley (584), Victoria Leppert (581), Megan Torrence (579), Lily Wytko (571). In air rifle competition, Wytko was the top Falcon with a 595 to place 12th, followed by in Hurley (595), Leppert (590), Rockett (589), Bethany Butler (587), Steen (586), Torrence (583).
Top Falcons: Senior team captain Victoria Leppert has the team's top aggregate average of 1173.81 while freshman Prisha Thomas is second (1172.80) and freshman Lily Miller is third (1168.0). Leppert leads the team in smallbore average at 582.45, followed by Thomas (581.00) and Miller (580.18). In air rifle, Lily Wytko leads the team with an average of 595.5, followed by Megan Torrence (593.91) and Thomas (591.80).
Last Time Out: Air Force dropped a close dual to UTEP, 4715-4703, Jan. 24, in El Paso, Texas. Air Force shot a season-high 2378 in air rifle while the team score of 4703 tied the third best on the season. Freshman Lily Miller placed second overall with a career-best aggregate score of 1183. Senior Victoria Leppert placed fifth with an 1176 while junior Megan Torrence was sixth with an 1170.In smallbore, Miller placed first overall, tying her career high with a 588. Leppert shot a 585 while Torrence and freshman Prisha Thomas each shot 576. In air rifle, junior Lily Wytko won the event, tying her career high with a 598. Miller placed fifth with a career-best 595. Torrence was sixth with a 594.
Looking Ahead: Following the PRC Championships, Air Force hosts an NCAA Qualifier against TCU, Saturday, Feb. 21, at 9 am MT, at the Cadet Rifle Range.
