Team captains for the 2026-27 season from the Air Force's intercollegiate athletic teams recently convened for a comprehensive leadership off-site at Hotel Polaris, designed to forge the next generation of Air Force and Space Force officers through the crucible of athletic leadership. The Team Captain Enhancement Program brought together cadet-athletes, head coaches, and seasoned military and athletic leaders to discuss culture, character, and competitive excellence. The off-site also provided an invaluable opportunity for these new captains to interact with and learn from each other.
The off-site featured a robust lineup of speakers and panels aimed at equipping team captains with the tools necessary to lead effectively both on and off the field. The event was kicked off with a team-building exercise put together by the Center for Character and Leadership Development (CCLD), followed by a Head Coaches' panel featuring Greg Dalby (Men's Soccer), Macey Donathan (Volleyball), Mark Clifford (Boxing), and Colleen Murphy (Women's Swimming).
Heath Eslinger from A Better Way Athletics led an interactive workshop on overcoming adversity as a team captain. The first day concluded with a fireside chat hosted by Eslinger, focusing on managing the myriad distractions in modern athletics. The event concluded the next morning with an interactive workshop, titled On and Off the Field: Leadership in High-Stakes Environments, from Maj. Gen. (ret) Brook Leonard.
