Texas Tanner Claims U.S. National Title in the Discus Throw

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Recent Air Force Academy graduate Texas Tanner captured his first U.S. national title this afternoon (July 25), as he took first in the discus throw at the 2026 Toyota USATF Outdoor and Para Championships at Ichan Stadium in New York.
Tanner recorded a throw of 65.46 meters (214'9") to win the national title by nearly one-and-a-half meters. While the winning throw came on his fourth attempt, his final throw of 64.10 meters (210'4") would also have won a competition that included the current American record holder Sam Mattis and defending national champion Reggie Jagers III.
That win came two days after he finished sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 71.64 meters (235'0").
Elsewhere at Ichan Stadium on Saturday, former Falcon Jason Renze finished 12th in the 3000-meter steeplechase behind a time of 8:35.18. The 2025 USAFA graduate advanced to his first national final following a career-best 8:26.40 performance during the preliminary round on Thursday.
