Fencing Opens With Five Gold Medalists At Air Force ROC

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force fencing opened the 2026 season by hosting the 2026 Air Force Regional Open Circuit this Sat.-Sun., Sept. 12-13 at the East Gym and Fencing Facilities in the Cadet Gymnasium. The Falcons had 10 medalists, including five earning gold in their respective divisions.

Gold medal performances came from senior Christina Watrall, sophomore Byung Kim, freshmen Sky Park, Michael Lin and Leon Dhal.

Watrall won the D1A women's epee by going 5-0 in the direct elimination bracket. Kim won the D1A men's epee by going 5-0 in bracket competition. Park won the junior men's foil by going a perfect 10-0 out of a field of 38. Lin won the D1A men's foil by also going 10-0 out of a field of 30. Dhal won the junior men's epee with a perfect 6-0 run through bracket competition out of a field of 45.

Freshmen Eric Ye, JoonWoo Lee, Karol Karnas, Ruth Mund and sophomore Sean Oh also medaled for the Falcons. Ye was the silver medalist in the D1A men's saber out of a field of 25. Lee was the bronze medalist in the D1A men's epee out of a field of 53. Mund was the silver medalist in the women's D1A saber. Karnas was the silver medalist in the junior men's epee.

The Falcons return to action at the USA Fencing October NAC, which runs Oct. 9-12 in Orlando, FL.
