Colorado Select Festival - Hockey (June 20-22) Parents and Hockey Players: (Pee Wee, Bantam, U-16 Midget)
Thank you for considering the Colorado Select Festival! In all areas of the country, events are hosted which provide hockey players with opportunities to showcase their talent and be seen by advanced level coaches, to name just a few, Minnesota has the Model Camp while New England has Hockey Night in Boston and the Chowder Cup. I created the Colorado Select Festival eight years ago to provide a showcase event for the top Pee Wee, Bantam, and U-16 Midget aged hockey players in the Rocky Mountain region. Over the years, the program has evolved and high level players from 20 different States as well as Canada have participated.
The Colorado Select Festival is a showcase event where players come to display their skills in a competitive tournament environment, it is not an instructional camp. The Colorado Select Festival features three Divisions; Pee Wee (1997-1998), Bantam (1995-1996), and U16 Midget (1993-1994), with four teams per Division. Each team will consist of no more than 16 Skaters and 2 Goaltenders, all players will receive equal playing time. The Festival provides participants with a four game round robin "medal" format over a three day weekend. The games begin on Friday, June 19 and conclude on Sunday, June 21, each game consists of two 25 minute stop time periods, team standings and individual scoring statistics are tracked, each game features a Player of the Game from each squad, All-Festival Teams and Festival MVP's in each birth year selected at the conclusion of the event. USA Hockey rules will be enforced, the only exception being the use of the "tag up" offside rule, certified USA Hockey officials will be utilized, "contact-angular-bump and ride" checking will be permitted, "collision" checking will not, the focus of the event is showcasing skills and I do not believe it is necessary to put players overly at risk of injury in a summer showcase.
In addition to the games, a College-Junior "A"-AAA Seminar will be conducted on the Sunday morning, June 21 at 10:45am. The seminar is included in the cost of the program and consists of guest speakers from AAA, Junior "A", and college programs. The speakers will explain how the advanced level process and system works as well as provide answers for any questions asked by parents and players.
The Select Festival Staff will attempt to competitively balance the teams as closely as possible, however, this can sometimes be very difficult to accomplish, team placement consideration will be given to players who car pool together, if car pooling, make sure to note travel partners on the registration form. All competitive Travel and High School players born between 1993 and 1998 are encouraged to attend, strong-experienced goalies only please. Positions will be filled on a first come basis, however, the Director reserves the right to refuse any applicant. Many out of town participants will participate as boarders in the Falcon Sports Camp the week preceding the Festival to expand the duration of their hockey experience at the Air Force Academy. There are billeting options in the Air Force dormitories for the first and second weeks of the Falcon Sports Camp, there are no billeting options in the dormitories over the weekend of the Select Festival, Festival participants will need to secure their own lodging arrangements, a list of local hotel contacts will be provided upon request.
If you are a top player, or more importantly, if you ar e someone who aspires to be top player, then you should consider the Colorado Select Festival! Frank Serratore Head Hockey Coach
