Water Polo (Session 2: June 15-20) Parents and Young Water Polo Campers: (ages 13-18)
Thanks for considering our Water Polo Camp at the beautiful Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs! We are delighted to offer this wonderful sport again this summer. Water Polo is a fun and exciting sport and is played throughout the world. We would love the opportunity to provide an environment to introduce your young water polo player to the game or to hone the skills of the seasoned player. Though water polo is very physically demanding and having some swim background is necessary, it is also very rewarding for all ages of players, parents and fans. The Air Force Falcon Water Polo camp is primarily a fundamental, skill and strategy camp. It provides campers the opportunity to play in a 30 meter course with emphasis on functional and positional play. We like to emphasize fundamentals as well because they are the most crucial skills in becoming a good high school or college player. During scrimmages, we will focus on the systems of play that most clubs and schools are using. Goalkeepers benefit from being in a group of their own where they receive instruction in the mornings and game experience in the afternoons. Each day the camp runs from 8:30am to 4:30pm, with the exception of Friday, which is a half-day camp with an award ceremony starting at approximately 11:00am. The campers are then free to leave immediately following the presentations. Parents are encouraged to attend the award ceremony as well as sessions during the week. On the first day, campers are put in groups based on ability. Our teams are divided between beginner, intermediate and advanced players. The mornings are dedicated to fundamentals with the afternoons geared towards tactical and positional play with scrimmages in the final hour of each day. We have four goals in the water and two width courses to compete in during the week. With the age requirement of 13-18, we will limit the number of campers to 28; this number enables each team of seven their own goal to work in. Items to bring include: swimsuits, goggles, towel, shorts, tennis shoes. We will supply caps, balls and water bottles. We are mainly concerned with the development of your son/daughter by helping them stay in touch with the game of water polo as much as possible. Our camp offers that additional time beyond club and high school play. We plan to provide a fun atmosphere where your young polo player will receive fundamental instruction and full game competition. Thanks again for considering our Air Force Water Polo Camp! We are confident it will be a rewarding experience for your future college player or Olympian. Jeff Ehrlich Head Water Polo Coach
