Where is San Marcos, Texas?
The city is located on Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio. The population was 44,894 in 2010. San Marcos is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 1.8 million in 2012. Founded on the banks of the San Marcos River, the area is considered to be among the oldest continuously inhabited sites in the Northern Hemisphere.

About the football program
Texas State begins its first season in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats made the transition to Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) status last season and played in the Western Athletic Conference, but is joining the Sun Belt on July 1. Texas State captured its first-ever game on the FBS level when they won at former C-USA member Houston 30-13 and finished its first season at this level at 4-8.
 | Head Coach Dennis Franchione Texas State is coached by Dennis Franchione, who also helmed the programs at TCU, Alabama and Texas A&M. This is his second stint as head coach with the Bobcats, as he was their head coach in 1990-1991. Franchione enters his 28th season as a collegiate head coach with a 197-115-2 career record and a 23-23 record at Texas State. His career win total rank him as one of the top five active winningest NCAA Division I FBS coaches in terms of total victories. He has coached nine conference championships and one divisional title, and he is a two-time National Coach of the Year, a two-time finalist for Paul "Bear" Bryant National Coach of the Year Award in 2000 and 2002, and been named a conference or regional Coach of the Year 10 times. His teams played in nine bowl games, four NAIA playoff games and one NCAA Division II playoff contest. His record also includes four 11-win seasons, six 10-win campaigns, eight 9-win seasons and a 45-game regular season winning streak. |
| Football Stadium Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium (Capacity - 30,000) Bobcat Stadium was built in 1981 and is the home of Bobcat Football. With recent additions including the Jerry D. and Linda Gregg Fields West Side Complex and the North Side Complex, Bobcat Stadium has elevated to one of the best 30,000 seat stadiums in the country. Originally called Bobcat Stadium, the facility's name was changed to Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium in 2002 to honor Texas State's former football coach and director of athletics. In its history, Bobcat Stadium has been a multi-use facility. It has been the home of the Texas Special Olympics, and site of scenes from the movie, "The Ringer", and the hit NBC TV show, "Friday Night Lights". |  |

Something You May Not Know about Texas State
Originally sponsored by the Interfraternity Council, the Soap Box Derby has been held each year at Texas State since 1967. Said Texas State IFC advisor Dr. Billy J. Hinton, IFC advisor, of the first event: "The derby attracted more students than any single activity on campus this semester."
The event is now an annual favorite during homecoming week and sponsored by the Order of Omega. Registered student organizations build homemade cars and race them against each other on Bobcat Trail. Cars are launched from a large ramp at the top of the hill and stopped by gravity, brakes or, as a last resort, safety hay bales.
