Team Captains from USAFA participate in the 2018 Gettysburg Leadership Summit
Air Force Academy cadet-athletes received valuable leadership training during the Third Annual Gettysburg Leadership Summit.
Modeled after a similar program at Army West Point and the Gettysburg Intercollegiate (IC) Team Captains’ Leadership Summit uses a battlefield tour to emphasize leadership, teamwork, and warrior ethos. Using the Battle of Gettysburg as an historical military context, the trip illustrated the importance of resiliency toughness and encouraged cadets to reflect on how historical lessons relate to their own leadership challenges. The battlefield tour itself took place on May 30-31.
The focus of the trip was to illustrate the importance of making good, timely, moral decisions in the face of adversity, for foster effective and courageous peer leadership through communications and respect and to build more comprehensive goal-oriented teams. For both cadets and staff members in attendance, the theme and ultimate goal to produce leaders of character for the Air Force and native, was reiterated through illustration of the sacrifices made by so many during this famous battle and all the conflicts since.
