Cheerleading Tryout Rubric
Sarah Hanley is the Air Force Academy’s Director of Spirit and Head Cheerleading and Mascot Coach. The Air Force Spirit program includes “The Bird” Mascot Team, the Coed and Group Stunt Cheerleading Squads and “The Bolts” Dance Team.
Hanley is a Colorado Springs native, growing up attending Air Force athletic events including football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and boxing. Hanley participated in USAFA’s many sports camps and athletic department days and continues to be a strong supporter of Air Force Athletics. After graduating from Pine Creek High School, where she served as a four-year varsity cheerleader and tennis player, Hanley attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado. She was a Division I cheerleader for the Bears and served as a staffer for the National Cheerleading Association for four years. In her time at UNCO, she was on both the coed and group stunt cheerleading team as a top girl, main base, secondary base and back spot. Graduating UNCO in 2017 with a degree in Elementary Education, Hanley moved on to be a public-school teacher in Quantico, Virginia, and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina before returning to Colorado. Hanley has a master's degree from UNCO in Educational Leadership and served as a mentor teacher to novice teachers entering education.
She looks forward to bringing the Falcon Spirit Program back to the National Cheerleading Association Nationals in Daytona, FL in 2026; competing all of her programs squads.
Hanley resides in Monument, CO with her husband, Grant, and their two children Alexi and Collin.
