Sports Nutrition Services
Mission: Dedicated to supporting the promotion of overall health, nutritional needs, recovery and safety of our athletes. We optimize athletic, mental, and military performance through proper nutrition to support their success as a cadet-athlete in the classroom, during competitions, and their future as an Air Force warfighter.
• Nutrition Counseling – Athletes are provided the opportunity to meet one-on-one with the sports dietitian to help develop a meal plan based on their individualized needs, physical/training goals, and competition fueling.
• Body Composition Testing – DEXA (Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans measure an athlete’s body composition; lean muscle mass, fat mass and percent body fat. Scans are offered to teams or individual athletes as well as comprehensive reviews of the results that can be combined with individualized meal plans to achieve their performance goals.
• Team Education – Performance nutrition talks are provided upon request on a wide range of nutrition topics, some of which may include fuel timing, recovery strategies, and hydration.
• Falcon Fuel – With locations in the Intercollegiate Cadet Gym Weight Room and Falcon Athletics Center Weight Room, Falcon Fuel provides our athletes with pre, during, and post workout nutrition sources to enhance workout preparation and provide optimal recovery.
• Training Tables – Breakfasts and dinners are catered from carefully selected restaurants and menus allowing athletes easy access to balanced, nutritious meals to enhance performance and recovery.
• Competition Fueling – The sports dietitian helps assure the athletes are receiving the necessary fuel and hydration to set them up for success whether it is at home or on the road.
• Supplement Education and Evaluation – At USAFA, we have a FOOD FIRST philosophy. Athletes considering taking a dietary supplement should first obtain approval from the Sports Dietitian. A comprehensive review of the product ensures the supplement is safe and in compliance with NCAA regulations. Supplements will only be recommended if research suggests a performance or health benefit and is certified through NSF Certified for Sport.
