JUNIOR YEAR | 2016: Appeared in the conference and national championship meets...recorded a personal-best 6K time of 22:26.6 at the NCAA Championships (237th)...made season debut at the Mountain West Championships ( 22:33.6, 62nd).
SOPHOMORE YEAR | 2015: Competed in three events, including the conference and regional championships...posted a career-best 6K time of 22:59.1 at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships (81st)...finished within the top half of the field at the Mountain West Championships (25:00.7, 39th)...opened the season at the Colorado State Invitational, clocking a 5K time of 18:26.6 to finish 26th out of 100 runners.
FRESHMAN YEAR | 2014: Raced at the Fresno State Invitational, clocking a 4200-meter time of 15:28.20 to finish 15th.
MAJOR TRACK AND FIELD HIGHLIGHTS: Two-time participant at the NCAA Outdoor Championships (1500-meter run: 2016, 2017)...clocked the fifth-fastest time in Academy history in that event (4:24.93) as a sophomore...also ranked fifth on the program’s all-time standings in the mile, after clocking a time of 4:53.30a as a freshman...has impacted the Academy record book in three relays – 4x1600-meter relay (19:34.05, Academy record), outdoor distance medley relay (11:23.94, second all-time) and indoor distance medley relay (11:49.14a, third-all-time).
HIGH SCHOOL: Ralston Valley High School...four-year letterwinner in both track and cross country...earned four first-team all-conference selections in track...also claimed second-team all-conference in cross country as a senior...member of the student government all four years...served as student body vice-president as a senior...competed in a year-round club called Angel Flight...qualified for the Junior Olympic Nationals...finished fourth in the 2000-meter steeplechase and 14th in the 800-meter run at that meet...named High School All-American in the steeplechase.
PERSONAL: Full name is Giulianna Gabrielle Vessa...nickname is “Baby Gap”...daughter of Frank and Deana Vessa...has two brothers (one older, one younger) and one younger sister...majoring in management...future plans include becoming either an agent in the Office of Special Investigations, an intelligence officer or a space operations officer...has served as Athletic Clerk, Support NCO and the Operation Air Force Cadet-in-Charge...named to the Superintendent’s List for excellence in military, academic and athletic performance...attended the Academy’s Prep School...awarded the Athletic Rope for having a PFT score that was ranked within the top 10-percent of class...hobbies include running, cooking and baking...is a coffee enthusiast and Foodie...would like to add “some things I live by: remain humble, always look for opportunities to learn from those before you, and seek perfection knowing that it is only attainable through your discipline and actions, seek support through your family, friends and most importantly, God”...completed the Powered Flight course over the summer...also served as cadre for the obstacle course during Basic Cadet Training...member of Cadet Squadron 20.
