All Air Force Academy home and away intercollegiate athletic events will be held as scheduled during the government shutdown. Funding for these events, along with travel/logistical support will be provided by the Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation (AFAAC). HIGH SCHOOL: South Carroll High School...member of the state championship cross country team in 2007...three-time state champion...won the 1600- and 3200-meter titles at the 2009 indoor championships as a senior...also won the indoor 3200-meter as junior...was the runner-up at that distance during the 2008 outdoor championships...high school record holder in the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter events...all-conference selection...received the Coaches Choice Athlete Award...member of the National Honor Society...graduated within the top five-percent of class. PERSONAL: Full name is Rachel Kathleen Sykes...daughter of Thomas and Rene Sykes...has one younger sister, Sarah...majoring in biochemistry...future plans include attending medical or dental school...hobbies include running, hiking, skiing and traveling...attended the University of Richmond for two years...competed on the track and cross country teams during the 2009-10 season...earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors once...finished second on the team at the A-10 Championships...helped the Spiders to a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships...named to the Commissioners Honor Roll...member of Cadet Squadron 23.
